The S14 has a peculiar valve cover, which makes the
RAS install a lot more complicated than the S13. The S13 install is a
matter of pulling off the cam bolts and putting it on, torquing them
down, and you're done. The pics of the installed pieces will be the
same for both engines. The valve cover for the S14 requires some work,
however. This particular RAS is the one from Tomei. These instructions are the same for both the Zenki and Kouki S14 motors.
Here
it is installed completely. Use the service manual (available on this
site in the tech pages) for the proper removal and installation
procedures of the cam bolts. You should loosen ALL OF THEM,
not just the ones you need to remove to install the RAS. Tighten them
down properly and you should be fine. I personally like to tighten my
cams a little tighter than the service manual recommends, but thats
just me.
Here
I highlighted the small bracket's location. I personally put this on
with the slot in it facing the cam for more clearance, but it seems to
work in either direction.
Here
you can see the hole that must be enlarged to clear the cam bolt on the
exhaust side. This one was very cleanly enlarged with a dremel tool.
Here
is the slot that must be cut to clear the RAS on the intake side. This
cut can be made with a variety of cutters, but a dremel should be used
to clean it up after cutting.
Another
shot of the intake side. This one is a tedious job. You can just cut a
huge hole out, but this one was cut preserving as much baffling as
possible. Special thanks to eng_man from http://www.dragva.com for the pics! |
