HKS GT2835 Turbo Install on S14 SR20DET (in 180sx)

EDIT: Originally we purchased this turbo under the impression it was a GT2540R. It turns out now that is actually a GT2835, which is much bigger than the 2540. Lucky find!

Here we are putting a big turbo on the stock SR manifold. These photos could still be informative to you even if you're using a different turbo.

Here's the HKS GT2835. It is a hybrid T28/T04E with a ball bearing T28 center section. They used some sort of adapter compressor back plate to fit the big T04E AR.50 front end on there. This turbo should hopefully make for some fast spooling and big power... However, the motor already has cams and put down 275rwhp on an S14 turbo. This T28 exhaust housing could still choke the motor off in the top end. (The dyno will prove me right or wrong later)

A side shot, notice the small T28 center housing.

The back end... this turbo, although used, is in great condition. No cracks anywhere, no shaft play.

That's Brett on the left and me (Hugh) on the right. We're attempting to put a larger T04E compressor on the thing... until we decide to turn back due to impossible to remove bolts. The regular 2835 will have to suffice.

Removing the stock turbo. All the piping is out of the way.

Look at that little baby hanging out down there.... Come to papa!

Simultaneously removing stock turbo and prepping GT2835 for install. Here we begin the fabrication process of the actuator bracket. We used an aftermarket adjustable actuator (both adjustable arm and pressure). We had no bracket to work with... so we bought some stuff at the hardware store and went to work.

Still building.... Brendan at work.

This is a photo to demonstrate stock turbo to manifold clearance.

Pay attention later when you see the GT turbine installed.

A really dark photo comparison of the two turbos side by side. Can you guess which one is the new one?

A night vision shot... I used my digital video camera to take these pics... forgot photo camera at home. The quality sucks because of my poor memory... sorry.

Here's closeup look at the mangled S14 compressor blade. It was making a nice whirring sound as the blade contacted the housing. Still held pretty strong boost, though.
